7 And our Rabbi the Rama wrote: And ideally one must be the Israelite at the beginning of the milking and he will see in the vessel that there will not be in the vessel that they milk with a ritually impure thing. And they accustomed to be stringent that he will not milk in a vessel that the non-Jew's way is to milk in it, perhaps there remained in it traces of their milk. However, after the fact one does not need to worry about all this. End of his words. Explanation of his words: That when there is no ritually impure thing in his herd, they were lenient that it is permissible when the Israelite sits from outside. But ideally he must be the Israelite at the beginning of the milking and to see in the vessel that there is not in it ritually impure milk. For since they prohibited because of this concern, it is automatically necessary to worry also in the vessel. And this is by law. But they accustomed to be stringent also in this, that even the Israelite should not milk in the vessel designated for them for milking, even though he sees that there is nothing in it, because of concern for traces of ritually impure milk, even though this is merely a trace. And therefore it is necessary to rinse it well with water. And by law there is no concern in this, for even if there are traces of milk, it will be nullified in sixty. However, after the fact one does not need to worry about all this. And not only in what they accustomed, but even if the Israelite was not at the beginning of the milking and did not see in the vessel, but he sat for himself from outside, it is permissible since there is no ritually impure thing in his herd. But when there is a ritually impure thing in his herd, it helps nothing, only when he saw from the beginning of the milking until its end [Avodah Zarah SK 4 and Shach SK 8]. And also in this permission the later authorities doubt, and their opinion is that even when there is no ritually impure thing in his herd, he must see the beginning of the milking [there]. And it seems to me even according to their words if the matter is difficult to stand at the beginning of the milking, as I saw that there are those who are careful about this because of an evil eye, they can even ideally rely on the sitting of the Israelite from outside, since there is no ritually impure thing in his herd. For this is better than after the fact since it is impossible in another way, and from the essence of the law there is no concern at all in this.
