Presented here for study, not as a practical ruling. The Shulchan Aruch rules by Sephardi custom, the Rema's glosses by Ashkenazi custom, and the Kitzur follows Ashkenazi custom. For a practical question, ask your rabbi.
1 It is prohibited to leave the corpse [unburied] over night, unless they left him over night for the sake of his honour, [viz.,] to provide for him a coffin or shrouds, or [professional] lamenting women, or in order that relatives should [have time] to come, or to assemble [surrounding] townships [for his funeral].
2 [With respect to] all [other] dead, whoever removes the bier hurriedly is [considered] praiseworthy; for one's father or mother it is [considered] reprehensible, unless it was on the eve of the Sabbath or on the eve of a Festival, or if rain was pouring down on his bier.
